The task of creating graphic masterpieces might seem initially to be daunting, despite the drag and drop interface and immediate visualization of graphic results in the Viewer window. There are, however many good sites who dedicate themselves to providing, by one means or another, open source , Quartz Composer study materials. This site and many form a growing bank of Quartz Composer related examples, ranging from tutorials, compositions, screensavers, XCode projects , custom patches and macro clips
.
Without any shadow of a doubt the touchstone example site of all example / study sites is the outstanding Wow Labs Digital which takes the prize, both for its generosity of spirit and the excellence of its examples. The iTunes Visualizer section makes for a truly rewarding study and no doubt has helped to float many an eye candy and stunning presentation since its inception. We explore modifying one of the Wow Lab iTunes visualizer examples in some detail elsewhere on this site.
For anyone wanting to explore the extension and thoroughgoing exploitation of everything under the hood and more besides [ without wishing to sound geeky :-) ], then do go the way of the Kineme Media forum and product site. Even for those who wish to render correctly Kineme plugin dependent compositions, this site is worth a visit , just to pick up the latest supported versions of their fine patch plugins. Heartily recommended. We explore incorporating some of Kineme GL Tools within a music visualizer elsewhere on this site, along with some other 3rd party plugins.
Although most of this guide is dedicated to exploring what you can do with what Apple provides and using their API's, this author has to admit that the 3rd party patches, plugins and no less abundant amount of
well informed advice about Quartz Composer composing and programming continue to be exploited in this author's work. We cover custom patch programming eleswhere on this site. Wheresoever we have made use of 3rd party plugins, notification is made and a link to the appropriate download site is given.
The qtzcodex depository is another fine source of study materials, as too is the delightful memo.tv.
For greater in depth experimentation with GLSL look to machines don't care .
Do also go to vimeo and you tube for their growing number of Quartz Composer generative art and VJ related videos.
